The Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16-17 was the most important holiday of the Israelite calendar. With its focus on bringing the people into a full relationship with Yahweh (“at-one-ment”), it is also the focal point of the book of Leviticus and a precursor of Jesus’ actions on the cross.
